XVIII Airborne Corps Tests Emerging Autonomous Attritable Systems for Today’s Battlefield
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — U.S. Army Soldiers and industry partners tested low-cost autonomous systems during Project Sandhills 2.0, Aug. 17-28, 2026, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Managed by the 20th Engineer Brigade, the exercise integrated autonomous vehicles, robotic breaching payloads, drone swarms, mine-detection systems and counter-unmanned aircraft capabilities to reduce Soldier risk, accelerate obstacle clearance and increase operational tempo.
