SGS26 Trains Multilateral Air Defense Tactics

Multinational forces conducted a joint live-fire exercise in Indonesia as part of Super Garuda Shield 26, utilizing FIM-92 Stinger and Mistral 3 air defense missile systems. During the training, U.S. Marines with the Marine 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Detachment, Marine Air Control Group 38, Marine Rotational Force-Darwin coached U.S. Army Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 11th Airborne Division on drone engagement with the man-portable Stinger, while Indonesian Soldiers with the 10th Air Defense Artillery Battalion practiced operating the heavier, vehicle-mountable Mistral 3. The exercise involved roughly 2,500 U.S. personnel from various branches working alongside Indonesian forces to build relationships and strengthen short-range air defense capabilities against low-altitude threats.
