Marine Corps Recruit Dies After Collapsing During Training

Private Aiden Craig died Aug. 5, 2026, after he collapsed during training. US Marine Corps photo Private Aiden Craig, a Marine Corps recruit, died last week, the Marine Corps announced Wednesday.

Craig, of Wylie, Texas, died on Aug. 5 after collapsing during a physical fitness test on Aug. 1, according to a Marine Corps release. While the release did not provide additional details, a podcast on Wylie High School’s football team, on which Craig played, said that he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest.

At the time of his death, Craig was part of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He enlisted in the service on June 1. He collapsed 47 days into his training, according to the Marine Corps statement.

Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego is investigating his death.

Craig graduated from Wylie High School in May, according to the podcast “Wylie Football Week.” Craig was part of the team’s defensive line and finished the last season with 50 tackles. He was named as a defensive end for Wylie Independent School District’s All District, Second Team.

The family told USNI News that it appreciates all the support it has received since Craig’s collapse.

“Our family is devastated by the loss of Private Aiden Gregory Craig,” reads the family’s statement. “Right now, we are focused on honoring Aiden and supporting one another. We appreciate the tremendous amount of love, prayers and support we have received, and we ask that our family’s privacy be respected during this time.”
